If you have been following these blogs, or read our book, by now you may be wondering – “What’s the big deal about creativity – I’m not an artist! I wish they’d find something else to yammer on about!”
Creativity is not just about being an artist – it is what has allowed our species to survive, adapt, grow and thrive. There was a wonderful article in Inside Art recently : ” Can Creativity Make You a Better Person?” The answer is YES and here are the highlights from that article:
- Creativity improves long term health because it enhances neural networks, using both sides of the brain.
- It helps us keep an open mind because it is about making new connections, considering and integrating new information.
- Creativity encourages empathizing with others and understanding alternate points of view.
- Creativity involves self-development – which allows us to expand our understanding of ourselves and each other.
So it’s definitely worth taking seriously (as well as enjoying) and continuing to develop – however you use it in your life, wherever it shows up!
Ask yourself-
Where am I most creative- cooking, organizing, writing, painting, interpersonal relationships, finances?
How can I expand that?
Can I give myself a pat on the back for taking risks and opening up this way? Please do!
See you next week with some exciting news to share about a creative project that we’re working on! And you can participate – no pencils or drawing required! Patty & Suzanne
