Nature matters to people. Big trees and small trees, glistening water, chirping birds, budding bushes, colorful flowers …these are important ingredients in a good life.” the Biophillia Hypothesis
We’ve talked about Nature before in these blogs and here we go again!
Humans seem to have a natural affinity for beauty, especially natural beauty. And no one really knows if that is based on our survival instincts – the need to find water and plants for sustenance – or simply the inherent relaxation of being in beautiful, natural spaces.
It seems especially important to refocus on this during this chaotic time we are living in. Nature can help us relax if we are willing to be present and let it in. It is all too easy to run the current problems of the world or the quandries of your own life, over and over in your mind while going for a walk along the river or lying on the beach. And often while in Nature, we begin focusing on climate change, or the other myriad ways we are destroying the Earth!
STOP!
Being present in the moment means letting all the mind chatter go and allowing in the sounds, smells, tastes, colors and textures around you. Breathe in the fresh air, listen to the birds and bugs, feel the sun on your skin – feel your skin dissolve! Go out under the full moon – it is bright enough to t take a walk through your neighborhood! Soak in the intense middle of the night quiet.
These experiences can be settling, calming, renewing. A primal way to fuel your soul in these difficult times.
Ask yourself –
Do you feel guilty allowing yourself a little necessary down time?
Are you willing to let nature nurture you?
Where is your favorite place to immerse yourself in beauty? How long since you’ve been there?
