One of the pluses of creative activity is the opportunity to attach oneself to the miracle of nature. In spite of our immersion in a technological world, we are surrounded by nature. Creative activity gives us an excuse to immerse ourselves in it every day.
Due to the floods and heat waves of the recent past, nature does not always feel like a friendly force. And in truth, it is not concerned with humanity. How amazing to step outside our world of self concern into a bigger picture.
Currently I am on vacation in the Eastern Sierras- surrounded by snow topped mountains, green valleys, rushing rivers, fish jumping. It is awe inspiring and the opportunities to write and paint allow me to sink more deeply into it. My senses and heart open.
One of our family teenagers, who has been a fantastic fisherman since early childhood, said yesterday, “I don’t really care what I catch right now – I just want to BE here.” Blessings on his head!
Nature is about renewal and resilience and those are qualities we hope to take home with us. To continue to appreciate in ways small and large the potted plant in the living room, a bouquet of flowers from the grocery store, fresh herbs from the farmer’s market, the wider vista when we catch a glimpse. We are connected to the natural world, it feeds us.
Ask Yourself-
Do I have a favorite landscape? How often do I allow myself to really enjoy it?
Do I feel more grounded when I stop to notice the natural world around me?
What creative activities help celebrate this- cooking, hiking, drawing, gardening, song writing???Â
Hope you open up some time to let the nature around you fill your soul and give you a creative nudge. Patty & Suzanne
