We have had an unusual winter of torrential rains here in Southern California and all of a sudden, we are on the verge of Spring! Almost florescent green pastures, bright yellow mustard dotting the meadows, rivers full and rushing. Soon the orange trees will blossom and for about a week our entire valley will be full of the sweet smell of burgeoning fertility. Brides put orange blossoms in their bouquets, twine them into their hair – a promise of coming joy and fulfillment.
Makes me want to lie down in the orchard, close my eyes, and dream. The return of color is one of my favorite things about spring – what’s yours?
Spring is the time of new beginnings – relationships, projects, interests. Ideas often emerge in unexpected ways and from unexpected places. So it is a time to walk softly, listen closely. Things smell different, feel different. What is rustling into being? As the days begin to lengthen we may find we are called to be outside more, perhaps to socialize more. Follow these impulses, instincts, and urges and see where they take you – we may not always know exactly where we are headed but simply that it is time to get in motion!
There are often fragile new beginnings in the Spring that need nurturing and privacy before the full blast of summer – treating them with loving kindness may give you the privilege of receiving a gift you never dreamed of. And remember – there are things you may be done with! It’s ok to put those away to make room for something new! What comforted us through the long winter may be unnecessary now.
Ask yourself –
What excites me about Spring?
What am I looking forward to?
What am I done with and what can be set aside, at least for a season?
Time to make room for the new growth in your life! And in keeping with the theme of this week’s blog, we thought we’d add some springtime color to our blog headline image – some lovely lilacs for you.
