Spring Housekeeping

Where I live, spring has definitely arrived in grand style! Tons of new growth and blossoms on trees and plants. Birds are chirping and gathering nesting materials. Lots of dog walkers out in shorts and hikers hitting the trails.  It’s like everyone has been released from the winter blahs.

And lots of spring house cleaning going on –  yardwork and weeding, tidying up our spaces. Energy abounds!

So, while we’re busy making room for a new season, how about some internal spring cleaning?  Sorting through feelings, habits, resentments, anger, sorrows that have been hanging around our hearts and minds that take up the dark corners of our souls. Maybe its time to LTSG- Let That Stuff Go!

It may sound easier said than done. Some of those things have been around for a long time, so they’ve settled in and become part of how we think and feel, and so familiar to our psyches that they pop up when we least expect it. But what purpose do they really serve? And are they taking up space where more self-affirming and positive feelings might reside?

If you’re ready to take a spring housekeeping challenge, here are some tools to get your “heart house” space tidied up.

  • Nature has a wonderful way of nurturing through your senses. When you’re relaxed and your mind wanders, your heart and soul begin to open to new ideas. Spend some time with Mother Nature.
  • Trust the Universe. Someone said to me that the more she tried to make things happen, the more they didn’t work out, and the energy spent was exhausting. So she decided to trust that things would happen as they should, and they did!
  • Bring those dark corners into the light. When you acknowledge that the old resentment toward your sibling over “how come you got the all the attention and I didn’t?” doesn’t serve any purpose anymore, you can let it go and invite in something more positive (“I have special talents and qualities that have brought me happiness and my own sense of purpose”).
  • Pace yourself. As the saying goes, “Rome wasn’t built in a day”. The best results come when you give yourself permission to slow down and make small, meaningful changes.

We’d love to hear how you’re welcoming Spring into your life!  Suzanne & Patty
