We seem to be inundated lately with hand-wringing news of the world, political partisanship, more violence and destruction around the globe. Some days it can be overwhelming and feel like our global world is spinning out of control. I, for one, escape into a safe space of a little creativity, something soothing, maybe some humorous reading to keep me balanced. How do you cope?
Recently, I started volunteering with a local non-profit organization whose mission is to house and provide supportive services to teens who are aging out of the foster care system and are at risk for homelessness. I am overwhelmed by the generosity of people who want to support this project in some way, expecting nothing in return. And I find that focusing on the importance of kindness & willingness to give is a powerful tool to combat negativity.
Our ability as human beings to be compassionate, kind and giving of ourselves is deep and inspires us to be better people. Perhaps one of these quotes will inspire you to spread more love, more kindness, peace and joy in your world.
“Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.” – Leo Buscaglia
“No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.” — Aesop
“Don’t wait for other people to be loving, giving, compassionate, grateful, forgiving, generous, or friendly. Instead, lead the way.” — Steve Maraboli
“Remember there’s no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act creates a ripple with no logical end.” — Scott Adams
“Wherever there is a human being, there is an opportunity for a kindness.” – Lucius Annaeus Seneca
“Unexpected kindness is the most powerful, least costly, and most underrated agent of human change.” – Bob Kerrey
Hope you find opportunities to give of yourself this week. The world will be grateful. Suzanne & Patty
